Vintage WWII aircraft graced Penn Yan on three occasions as part of the Annual Wings of Freedom Tour conducted by the Collings Foundation
The Collings Foundation
The Collings Foundation is a non-profit, Educational Foundation (501c-3), founded in 1979. The purpose of the Foundation is to organize and support "living history" events that enable Americans to learn more about their heritage through direct participation.
Collings Foundation's Wings of Freedom Tour visited Penn Yan Airport in 2004, 2012 and 2015 bringing thousands of visitors to the airport to view the fully restored warbirds from WWII. Sadly, the Wings of Freedom Tour has come to an end but we would be remise if we didn't celebrate those occasions when we got to see these tremedous aircraft up close.
A tribute to our Veterans
One of the methods used by Collings Foundation to support the Wings of Freedom tour was to offer rides in the vintage aircraft for a range of different costs. Seneca Flight worked closely with the Yates County Chamber of Commerce during each visit to obtain sponsorships from local businesses to give free rides to WWII and other veterans in the area. Over 200 Veterans received free rides in the vintage WWII aircraft. Our sincere thank you to the Chamber of Commerce and of course all the local businesses in Yates county that donated the funds to make it all happen.
Enjoy these photographs from the Collings Foundation's visits. RIP Nine-O-Nine and her crew
